CBL – Companhia Brasileira de Lítio

Companhia Brasileira de Lítio is a Brazilian company, pioneer in the underground mining of litiniferous pegmatite and in the concentration of spodumene, a greenish mineral containing lithium. Spodumene is found within the pegmatites, along with Mica, Feldspar and Quartz.

CBL is one of the few companies worldwide with the integrated lithium ore-concentrate-compound technology.

Our underground resource Mina da Cachoeira is operated with the sublevel stopping method, under very stringent safety procedures. Spodumene is concentrated through Dense Media Separation, developed according to our resource specific needs.

After concentrated, spodumene is shipped to our chemical plant where we produce lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide using the acid route.

Our products are used by a vast range of applications, such as lubricant grease, ion-lithium batteries, fluxing powders, salts for thermal treatment, pharmaceutical, ceramic and glasses, among others.

  • 1991: Innauguration of operations at the emblematic Mina da Cachoeira
  • 1992: First shipments of Lithium Carbonate Technical Grade and Lithium Hydroxide
  • 1998: Commissioning of Dense Media Separation
  • 2005 Modernization of mining operations with drilling Jumbos
  •         :   Revamping of pyrometallurgy
  •    2015 Loaders with remote control operation
  • 2013: Awarded Mining Company of the Year by prestigious magazine  BRASIL MINERAL
  • 2016: CBL reaches current production capacity :
    • Spodumene Concentrate : 30,000 tpy
    • Lithium Carbonate Equivalent (LCE) : 1,500 tpy
  • 2018: Acquisition of 33% of shares by Codemge. CBL remains under 100% Brazilian ownership
  • 2019: Commissioning of the production of Lithium Carbonate Battery Grade

Majority of CBL shares (67%) belongs to Brazilian entrepreneurs with vast experience in mining & metals ventures.

Codemge
Since mid-2018, Codemge Participações, major owner of Codemig, acquired 33% of CBL shares, as part of its strategy for creating of an industrial platform for the development of a  state-of the-art solution in electric energy storage for growing markets based on electric mobility and spread generation.

CBL uses updated technology for mineral extraction and beneficiation, and in the production of Lithium compounds.

Mina da Cachoeira : High quality Litiniferous Pegmatites (1.6% LiO2). Mineral reserves for more than 30 years at current production level

Underground mining through sublevel stopping, with very stringent safety and quality standards, including remote control equipment.

Lithium compounds produced from hard rock pegmatite have less contaminant content than those produced from brines.

Our spodumene concentration uses Dense Media Separation developed specifically to Mina da Cachoeira resources, with outstanding performance and regularity

We use the acid route for the compounds production, preferred by largest worldwide hard rock producers.
